Case Study Update – Month 21 Project “s²”

My YouTube channel for this website is exploding! This has been very exciting. It feels like everything I have done SEO-wise up until this point was all just “practice” for now…

I did do a little behind-the-scenes “black hat” tactics to help give it an extra boost. It was a Fiverr gig that used Google Ads to promote videos and get subscribers. It worked out well.

It’s just nicer making content on a channel you know is monetized.

Here’s the tl;dr on the site specs:

Analytics Traffic

In April, I had 23,407 pageviews for this website. This has been the trend for most of this year. Nothing going up really, and nothing good is down.

It makes sense, I’ve put minimal work into the actual blog for this website over the last few months. I have a bunch of content to put on there soon, around 30 posts, that I outsourced through PassionPosts when they had a big discount being offered.

I’m also sounding like a broken record by now, but I really need to update old content. Maybe I should make this a longer-term goal, like over this summer try and get a lot of the earlier content updated.

That’s my intention, please judge me on that, not my actual behaviours :D.

Let’s Talk Money

For April 2023, month 21 of this website, the Ezoic earnings were $120.65 (with a $5.81 EPMV)

Last month’s earnings were $108.04.

If you notice in the top right, there’s an urgent attention link for issues affecting my revenue. I’ll show you what it’s telling me:

Urgent Issues

If you’ve been following this for a while you’ll know I drastically reduced the ads on this website. Well, this is how drastic it was.

I had/have a few reasons for doing that, but the main one was that I don’t rely on or care about the revenue for this site right now. And on top of that, I want to start “owning” my audience, through things like an email list.

So I figured with ad rates being their lowest lately, I’d start to implement getting people to sign up to my email list. I’m still working on the lead magnet. Once that’s ready and professional looking, I’m hoping it’ll start to capture a lot more emails.

I’ll also be promoting the email list through social media soon which, again, I hope will give the conversion rate a big boost.

But obviously, if revenue is your main focus, and you’re with Ezoic, take their suggestions seriously, because you can clearly see I’m missing out on a lot of potential revenue.

So, What’s the Plan?

I’m getting a lot more passionate about the social media side of things. YouTube for this website has been a lot of fun, and I’m trying to stay consistent there. I may even reach out soon to try and get on a podcast to help promote it organically.

I’m also getting into social media, like Instagram. I haven’t really engaged with anything outside of YouTube for over a decade, so it’s still all really new to me. But I’m enjoying it, and am starting to see potential revenue possibilities, like sponsorships for different platforms.

But that’s pretty far down the road at this point.

For this blog, I need to actually start updating some of the older content and prioritizing on-page SEO for a lot of posts. It’s long overdue, but I think it could help give it a bump in traffic.
