Summer has been slow. I’ve kind of been 2/3’s parenting and 1/3 working, which leaves little time for this project. On top of that, things are dropping a bit.
I’m sure everyone in the blogging world can relate to low ad rates and low EPMVs. Well, almost everyone, I’m sure there are some outliers.
But I’m not one of them…
Here’s the tl;dr on the site specs:
- Cloudways Vultr hosting from the start
- Ezoic ads from the start
- GeneratePress Theme (basic setup)
- Aged Domain
Analytics Traffic
In July, I had 23,658 pageviews for this website. This has been the trend for most of this year. Nothing going up really, and nothing good is down.
Nothing much to say here. I didn’t put in the work, I didn’t get any results. I’m happy there’s still life in this website. I’ve had a few SEO colleagues who’ve been smashed down to almost zero traffic.
I’ve been telling myself I need to update old content. But I’m starting to lean more and more to really revamping this site soon, especially with the help of A.I. tools to create a topical map and gain some authority that way.
Let’s Talk Money
For July 2023, month 24 of this website, the Ezoic earnings were $113.70 (with a $5.45 EPMV)
Last month’s earnings were $124.13.
If you notice in the top right, there’s an urgent attention link for issues affecting my revenue. I’ll show you what it’s telling me:
Urgent Issues
If you’ve been following this for a while you’ll know I drastically reduced the ads on this website. Well, this is how drastic it was.
I had/have a few reasons for doing that, but the main one was that I don’t rely on or care about the revenue for this site right now. And on top of that, I want to start “owning” my audience, through things like an email list.
So I figured with ad rates being their lowest lately, I’d start to implement getting people to sign up to my email list. I’m still working on the lead magnet. Once that’s ready and professional-looking, I’m hoping it’ll start to capture a lot more emails.
I’ll also be promoting the email list through social media soon which, again, I hope will give the conversion rate a big boost.
But obviously, if revenue is your main focus, and you’re with Ezoic, take their suggestions seriously, because you can clearly see I’m missing out on a lot of potential revenue.
So, What’s the Plan?
I’m going to have a lot more time come September to focus in on this website. I was starting to lean towards giving up and selling it, but for what I would make on it, I don’t think it’s worth it yet.
Every few months I get my Ezoic check, which is always a nice little bonus considering I’m Canadian and it’s USD.
But I’ve been playing around more and more with ChatGPT and checking out some content from Matt Diggity to try and start thinking about topical authority for this site.
